Scott fell into this Darrell Scott classic sideways: as a huge fan of Elmore Leonard, he was totally in love with the TV show “Justified”. Having grown up just on the other side of the Ohio River, the song about the ruin left behind by coal companies was a story he was familiar with.
The show used not just the original – but also numerous cover versions. And Scott liked elements of each but thought: What if we take all of the things I like from the various versions and put them together?
The band’s version never fails to get a great response from the audience, and this recording marks the first time Scott recorded the mandolin on an Other Heroes track.
