Skyler had been a fan of Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer for a while, but most of the band had not been familiar with their songs until they started going to The Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in 2012. Dave Carter had been a highly revered songwriter and performer at the festival until passing in 2002 – but Tracy Grammer has done so much to keep their shared legacy alive. There’s still a Dave Carter song circle that meets at the festival each year.
Falcon Ridge had always been important to the band – it’s where, in 2011, Kirk had the idea to start a group with Scott, and it was the following year where all of the members hung out together and found their sound. The band gelled around a jam of “The Mountain” at a song circle, and a couple years later they brought their pell-mell version to the Lounge Stage.
While the band went on to be an Emerging Artist in 2015, and voted Most Wanted to return in 2016 – this song was an outtake, recorded while tracking the first album in 2014.
